Changes to the Singapore Employment Act from 1 April 2019 to cover all employees and enhance dispute resolution and provide business flexibility

The Employment (Amendment) Bill was passed in Singapore Parliament on 20 November 2018, with changes to the Employment Act (EA) and Employment Claims Act (ECA) to take effect from 1 April 2019. The amendments to the Acts cover four key areas:

  1. Extension of core provisions of the EA to protect all employees;
  2. Extension of Part IV of the EA to protect more employees;
  3. Enhancement of the employment dispute resolution framework; and
  4. Enhanced flexibility for employers.
